Born in New York City and raised in Traverse City, MI Lillie grew up surrounded by art, culture, and nature. Her father is well-known musician, illustrator, and fine artist, Glenn Wolff, her mother is a former modern dancer and pianist, and her grandmother was a big band saxophonist, author, and silversmith. Originally trained as a musician and dancer herself, Lillie went on to nurture her interest in psychology and sociology, earning a BA in Human Development and Social Relations from Kalamazoo College in 2004. She began making jewelry after returning from studying abroad in Quito, Ecuador in 2003. The artisan culture of the Andes inspired her to experiment with jewelry-making. Lillie's designs are bold, earthy, and minimalist. She hand-picks each semi-precious stone and hand makes each sterling silver ear wire. Her earring designs are long (and proportioned to the size of the stones) so that the stones fall elegantly in line with the jaw bone. Lillie feels that wearing simple jewelry made with natural materials is a lovely way to express and adorn ourselves, as well as connect with the elements and energies inherent in metals and stones. Two of Lillie's earring designs (including the amber stack earrings shown above) appear in the book: 1,000 Jewelry Inspirations: Beads, Baubles, Dangles, and Chains, by Sandra Salamony (Rockport/Quarry Press).
